Tuesday Thought – Are You Teachable?

As we get older we tend to fall into a trap of feeling we know a lot. While yes with each year that passes we should be getting wiser, the trap comes when we start to feel we have no more to learn. It’s at this moment that we are no longer teachable. The saying, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” becomes true.

The truth is learning is a never ending process. What should happen as we grow older is our realization there is so much we don’t know. When that realization hits we should feel a thirst for more knowledge. We should humble ourselves to learn something from those around us every day. We should reflect back on all we’ve learned and put into practice the actions that are needed to continue our growth.

To be truly effective leaders in our homes, workplaces, churches and in this world we must not become complacent in our growth. That means having a desire to continue learning about ourselves, the world around us and those who live in it. It means never feeling we have arrived and we know it all.
