Tuesday Thought – The Elevator Principle

I love this People Principle from John Maxwell and I’ve written about it several times. I don’t mind repeating it because it’s one of the most important things to remember in all of our relationships.

Today I want to look at it not from the aspect of what you bring to a relationship but what are you letting others bring to you. There is a quote in Winning With People that says, “People can be the wind beneath our wings or the anchor on our boat.” What a great visual picture for our relationships. People can either lift us up to amazing heights or drag us to the bottom.

So the question I have for you today is, what type of people are you surrounding yourself with? Who are you allowing to influence your life? Yes, I used the word allowing because you do have the power to let someone into your life or to remove them.

Write a list of those you interact with the most and ask yourself, are they lifting me up or pulling me down? If they are subtracting from your life it may be time to let them go. I understand this may be tough because it can be a co-worker, friend or even family. But it may be necessary for you to grow!
