Today I’m taking a break from the leadership discussions to share a few thoughts from a sermon I heard. The message title is, “This Is Stealing Your Peace” by Pastor Steven Furtick.
There was a phrase from the sermon that stuck with me and that is, “It’s impossible to experience peace when you are expecting perfection?” I asked myself the question, does everything have to be perfect for me to be at peace?
I have to admit that at times I’ve tied my peace to the actions of others, to the environment around me, or to some special circumstance. The problem is that if the people don’t act right, the environment is not what I envisioned, or the circumstances not what I imagined my peace is lost. I tied my peace to things beyond my control and gave them power over my peace.
I had to realize that my peace doesn’t come from needing perfection it comes from knowing He is with me through all situations. This means that I don’t need a perfect work situation, a perfect family, a perfect church, or a perfect environment to be at peace. I can be at peace in an imperfect world because I know I’m not alone.
Do you need perfection to have peace in your life?
