You Won’t Always Win

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭NLT

I love watching sports and watching the Olympics is sports at its best. Athletes at the top of their games competing for the top prizes in their events. In each of these competitions there will be winners and there will be those who fall short of winning. After all the training and effort to have it all end in defeat can be tough to swallow. But what do the majority of these athletes do when faced with a loss? They dust themselves off, learn from their mistakes and get back to training for a chance to do it all again.

This is how you have to handle the times in your life when you don’t win. The time when you don’t get the job you had your heart set on. The time when the relationship you poured your heart into ended. The time you suffered financial difficulty. In all of these situations you have a choice. You can let the defeat define the rest of your life in a negative way or you can grow from it in a positive way.

Any time you face defeat it will be difficult. The wind is knocked out of your sails and it will take a moment to recover from that initial shock. But once you are over the initial pain of the defeat, it’s time to focus on getting back in the game. Just because you didn’t win the last race, it doesn’t mean you won’t win the next one. But the only way you will know is to get back in the race. Lean on God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11. You were not made to stay defeated!
