Change

Philippians 3:21 (NLT), “He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.”

Change is a word that sends shivers through many people. Even though change throughout our lives is inevitable we still dread it when it comes. Why is that? For many of us, it’s very easy to get comfortable where you are. You are comfortable around your friends, you are comfortable around your neighborhood, and you are comfortable in your job. There is nothing wrong with finding that comfort, it helps you feel safe and secure. But what if God has bigger blessings in store for you but you have to make a change to receive them. Would you be ready to step out  in faith and change?

Being in the military required me and my family to be open to change. Every three years or so there was a new assignment for me to take on. That meant packing up and leaving friends and a job I was comfortable in. Sometimes that move was within the United States but other times it took me overseas. So now I had to adapt to a new culture and new ways of doing things. Honestly, I had two choices, to accept the changes and embrace the new environment or be upset and miserable because of the move. I always tried to embrace the new location and its people. I found when I did that God opened up some amazing opportunities for me. Change is still difficult but your attitude makes all the difference.

When change comes your way have the attitude that you are going to embrace this and make the most of it. You are going to go where God is leading you, even if at first its uncomfortable for you. The Israelite’s had to do that  when leaving Egypt and God knew how facing discomfort during change causes us to react. Exodus 13:17 (NLT) says, “When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that was through Philistine territory, even thought that was the shortest way to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” Wow, so instead of trusting in God and his ways if faced with difficulty they would rather go back into bondage.

How many of us are in situations like this? God wants to do a work in you, change you to receive His full blessings. But instead of embracing the change, and the initial discomfort that might come, you would rather stay in bondage where you currently are. Be open to change my friends when God brings it your way. He wants to bless you in ways you can’t imagine but you have to trust Him and His plans.
