Good day all!
Today we continue in the Legacy chapter of Doug Dickerson’s book, Leaders Without Borders.
As leaders we leave our mark, our legacy.
You carve out a niche that is characteristic of your leadership.
The type of mark you make as a leader is up to you.
For every leader there are marks worth leaving.
I feel strongly about two such marks.
Leave a mark of passion.
Shakespeare said, “O that my tongue were in the thunder’s mouth! Then with passion I would shake the world.”
A passionate leader shakes the world with conviction and purpose.
Passion is an ingredient all leaders must possess if they are to succeed.
Your passion as a leader is what defines your legacy as a leader.
Leave your mark with people.
In order to leave your mark with people you have to develop relationships with them.
Positional leadership may be the initial starting place for new leaders, but in order to grow to a place of lasting legacy, you can’t remain there.
A leader expanding his borders understands that his success is tied to the success of others around him.
With that being true, a wise leader cares for those around him.
Leaving your mark with people is about praising them in the good times and exercising patience in the down times, forgiveness in the hard times, and encouragement in the depressing times.
Above all else, it is simply about being there.
We all leave a mark by which our legacy will be defined.
Let it be said of us that we were passionate leaders who cared deeply for others.
