Good day all! I’ve been away from posting for a bit while we celebrated my daughter’s wedding this past weekend. 😊
We pick up today back in the Attitude chapter of Doug Dickerson’s book, Leaders Without Borders. As you read the excerpt below, think about how you handle disappointment.
Let’s be honest: we all have had our share of disappointments and setbacks.
On a professional level, how you deal with disappointments sets the tone for the organization.
Personal disappointment is one of the hardest situations from which to recover.
When it comes to personal disappointments, forgive yourself; cut yourself some slack and get moving.
Once you have identified that cause of your personal disappointment you are now empowered to make corrections.
Identify what went wrong, accept responsibility, and move on.
Simply put, life is too short to wallow in self-pity.
Life is filled with disappointments and mistakes, but we must not allow them to own us.
The event is temporary, but the effects of how we respond in the midst of the event will last much longer.
It’s worth repeating that the attitude we choose makes us or breaks us.
Sometimes we cause our own disappointments, and at times other people cause them.
In order to be successful in leading others, you have to successfully lead yourself.
When you get knocked down, you get back up, you choose the attitude that you will lead with, and you set the tone for the attitude that others around you will have also.
