It’s hard to believe that 2021 is coming to an end. To me it seems like a blur, maybe that’s because 2020 was so eventful and impactful on our lives.
Today many of us will go through the end of year ritual reflecting back on 2021 and making plans for 2022. These plans many will call New Years Resolutions. These resolutions are things we want to improve on or start in the upcoming year.
They include things like getting healthier, changing jobs, becoming financially responsible, starting a business, growing spiritually, the list goes on and on.
We will make our list, then look at the end result of where we want to be in 2022 and we will get excited. On January 1st we will move forward toward those resolutions with pep in our step. Sadly for many, by March 1st we’re no longer stepping, we’ve given up. Why is that?
I believe far too often we focus on the end goal but don’t realize the process it will take to get there.
We underestimate the monthly, weekly and daily disciplines that have to be in place to reach those goals we’ve set for the year.
We aren’t ready to make the changes within ourselves and our habits that will help us reach those goals.
We forget the process will have setbacks and sometimes all the work we’re putting in won’t provide immediate results.
We lack the faith that the work will produce a harvest in due time.
My encouragement to each of us is to take it one step at a time. Whatever 2022 goals you’re setting for yourself, understand it won’t happen overnight. Allow for setbacks and missteps, realizing the only way they keep you from reaching your goals is if you quit.
Give yourself time to grow into the person you need to be to reach the goals you’ve set for yourself and to live your life with purpose.
