As I finish up John C. Maxwell’s, Winning With People, I came across this quote from Stephen R. Covey. I read it several times and reflected on its meaning. Then I asked myself, am I cultivating Win/Win relationships in all areas of my life?

When we cultivate Win/Win relationships the focus is on adding value to the other person so their needs are met. You enter into the relationship with this focus, not on what you can get from the other person. You realize that success is not predicated on one of you having to lose. You understand that you can both win if you’re focused on adding value to each other.

Too often we are led to believe the road to success has only one lane traveled by one person. I believe the road to success is a multi-lane highway that we can all travel at the same time if we take the focus off ourselves.

Today I ask you to evaluate the relationships in your life and ask yourself, am I cultivating a Win/Win relationship? If you’re not then maybe it’s time to change your focus.
