Listen with curiosity!

This is a skill that I’m still working on. So many times as I’m listening to someone I’m guilty of focusing more on my reply to them than what they are actually saying. This is both in my home life and at work.

The problem with this is I only catch what they are saying on a superficial level. I may get the main idea but I fail to catch the true meaning of what is being said. I fail to understand. Without truly listening I fail to see the emotion and importance the person is revealing. The problem is I believe the response I’m about to give is the important thing, not the actual communication itself.

I think we can all find areas where we’ve been guilty of this. So today let’s focus on listening with curiosity. Spend today truly listening to your family member, friend or coworker without the intent to reply. Let’s listen to understand!
