“Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.”
Hebrews 12:14 NLT
This is a perfect verse for each of us to reflect on, especially with all that is going on around us. Unfortunately as most of us know, we aren’t living in peace. Many people are so quick to jump on those who are different than they are, who think differently than they do, who act differently than they do, and they completely forget the love they should have for them.
Today much of our society is focused on this, “If it’s not how I would think or what I would do then it’s dead wrong!” So instead of trying to understand where that other person is coming from and why they feel the way they do we automatically put a label on them and cast them aside. We jump on social media to let the everyone know how disgusted we are and how wronged we feel. But do you truly understand that other person’s point of view? Have you tried?
God calls us to love one another and to live in peace with one another. The only way to do that is to try and understand one another. And you can’t do that if you’re constantly talking and not truly listening. Regardless of what many people may have you believing, we can live in peace as God calls us to do. Each of us has to do our part. First step, let’s listen with an open mind and an open heart!
