We all have blind spots, those things about us that we don’t see. It’s that perspective others have about us that differs from what we see in ourselves. If we aren’t careful they can keep us from reaching our full potential as leaders. So how do we identify them?
We need to allow people to speak truth into our lives. We have to let our guard down allowing others to share their perspective with us. This is a tough thing to do because our egos really don’t want to hear what they have to say.
For me it’s all about trusting the people I am opening up to whether it’s family, friends or coworkers. I have to build the type of relationship where I know they care about me and want the best for me. But even then I still have to make sure I check my attitude when I’m receiving their feedback because it still may be tough to hear.
To be an effective leader in my home, work and all other areas of my life I have to address my blind spots by allowing truth to be spoken into my life by those I trust.
Have you given those you trust permission to speak truth into your life? Are you ready to deal with your blind spots?
