This week my wife and I are on vacation in South Florida. We truly value this time away from the every day routine because it gives us a chance to reflect, gain perspective and plan for the future. We do this individually and as a couple. Being able to do these three things has brought such tremendous change in our lives and I’ll share more about that later in the week.
Last week I talked about how comfortable we are staying with old problems instead of looking for new solutions. Fear and not moving out of our comfort zone were some of the reasons why we stay where we are. Being able to spend some time alone helps you to overcome this and here’s how:
1. You can reflect on where you’ve been in your life. Reflection allows you to see how God has blessed you in the past and it renews your faith that He can do it again.
2. You have a chance to put the situation in perspective. Perspective shows you the problem or situation is not insurmountable. The giant you thought you had to slay is really not a giant at all.
3. You develop a plan to move forward from where you are to where you want to be. Planning gives you momentum as you lay out actionable steps you can take to move forward.
I want to encourage you to find that time alone to reflect, gain perspective and plan for the future. You don’t have to wait for a week long vacation to have the time alone. Each one of us can carve out that time in our daily lives. It can be as little as 15-20 minutes each day. That’s a small price to pay to start moving away from your old problems!
