This quote from John Maxwell speaks to the formula needed to effectively create our path forward in life. It works for all aspects of our lives, career, family, health, our spiritual walk, etc. To set the course forward for where we want to go in these areas there are a few key ingredients we will need.
First, we must look back to where we have been. This is important so we can apply the lessons learned from both the good and bad situations we’ve experienced. For many of us it can be a painful reflection. However, being able to evaluate our past and learn from the experiences we’ve faced is an excellent teacher.
Second, we must be able to evaluate where we currently are. The key here is we have to be honest with ourselves on what the current situation truly is. We have the tendency to either overestimate or underestimate where our life is depending upon our personality. The pessimist may say their life is doom and gloom when it really isn’t. The optimist may say my life is happiness and sunshine when it truly isn’t. Because of this there are tools available to help us make an honest assessment.
Now once we bring together the evaluated experiences of the past with the honest assessment of where we are currently the path forward to where we want to go can be created.
The key is knowing yourself, to honestly be able to look at your past and your present so you can create your future!
