Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there!
As I sit on the back porch reflecting on what it means to me to be called a father, the following words came to mind.
Forgiving – I must have a spirit of forgiveness for my children as they will make mistakes in life, just as I do. They must always know I will forgive them.
Authentic – I must be authentic with my children so they see not only Super Dad but Messed Up Dad. This allows them to see you can overcome your failures.
Trusted – I must be a person my children can trust to be there for them at all times. I must be the sounding board when they need it but also a disciplinarian when needed.
Hardworking – I must display a good work ethic for my children so they understand anything worth having is worth working for. This world doesn’t owe them anything.
Encouraging – I must be their biggest encourager in life. There will be enough people trying to knock them down, I need to be there to lift them up.
Responsible – I must accept the full responsibility of fatherhood. Through the good times and the bad times, they are my children and I will love them always.
