“It’s nice to be nice!” We are on a tour bus headed down to Key West today and that quote is what our tour guide started the day off with. His message was simple, when we are kind to each other it makes the day so much better and we feel better about ourselves. It all sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? Why then do we have such a hard time doing it?
I love the verse in the picture from 1 John 4:11 because it instructs us as to why we should love others. It is because of the love God has for each one of us. When we truly understand and feel that love then we are able to truly love others.
When we truly understand how much God loves each of us then our hearts are transformed. We’re able to truly love others. That love is shown in our words, actions and thoughts. We don’t view each other through the lens of skin color, nationality, gender, religious affiliation, etc. We are able to love each other despite our differences.
Too often today we put those differences at the forefront of why we shouldn’t love. We fall into the lie that we can only love those who are like us. We can only love those who look like us. We can only love those who think like us. But this is contrary to the love God has for each of us. He loves us all!
If you truly feel God loves you then search inside your heart and ask yourself if you have the same love for others. Are you letting someone tell you that you can’t love someone different than you? Are you truly letting God’s love penetrate your heart and change your life? Are you loving all people the way He has called you to?
It’s never too late to change how you view others. It’s never too late to start truly loving others, despite the differences. Look inside yourself today and change if needed!
