If only we could always follow the words in this verse. Unfortunately, I can remember far too many times when I did the complete opposite. I was slow to listen, quick to speak and even quicker to get angry. As you can imagine, having those reactions didn’t help the situation end in a positive way.
We can all agree that our interactions with others would be far better if we could follow these 3 rules. So what does it take to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry?
For me, I have to focus on three things to follow the words in this verse: patience, wisdom and grace. I need the patience to listen to the other person and the words they are speaking. I need the wisdom to say the right words when it is my time to speak. I need the grace to withhold the anger I may want to release in response to the person or situation.
These are things the Spirit has already provided to me, I just need to use them. Each of us has these gifts inside of us but whether we use them or not is our choice.
Today think about the gifts you would need to use so that you can become quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry. Use them today and watch your relationships grow!
