““Don’t seek revenge or carry a grudge against any of your people. “Love your neighbor as yourself. I am GOD.”
Leviticus 19:18 MSG
If only we all truly followed the words in this verse, what a difference it would make in our world today. I challenge you today to look inside yourself and see what grudges you are holding against someone else. Ask yourself this question, why?
Are you holding on to grudges and seeking revenge for things that happened to you many, many years ago. While what happened to you may have been tragic, have you allowed that negativity to shape your life for all these years? When will it stop?
What about grudges you are holding against people you don’t even truly know? Social media has brought that into our lives because now you feel like so many people are a part of your life. Because of this, you feel wronged by someone you’ve never met, never spoken to, and outside of what you see printed you don’t even truly know.
We have let the poison of negative thinking about others change our lives. Why is that?
First, I think we have grown accustomed to judging others instead of living the life God has called us to live. Look at how quickly we pass judgment on things we see and read about, again without ever knowing the true story. And sometimes we are passing judgment on things that don’t even involve us because for some reason we feel we have to.
Second, we are so afraid of facing the things we need to change in our own lives. What better way to avoid making the changes needed in our own life than to turn our focus on the changes we feel someone else needs to make in their life.
Third, we have forgotten how much Jesus truly loves us. Reflect on how much you are loved even through all the flaws that you have and the many times you’ve messed up. Aren’t you blessed that the amount of love He shows to you is not based off of His judgment of your actions.
Friends, I too get caught up in judging others and holding grudges because I’m not looking at them through eyes of grace. We can continue to blame things like social media, etc. but when it comes down to it, we control our own actions.
You have to make a conscious effort to not judge, seek revenge or carry a grudge. You have to determine that you will look at others through the eyes of grace. When you feel yourself going down that path of judging others, reflect back on how much Jesus doesn’t judge you and how thankful you are for that!
