The weekend is upon us and for many of us we’e been so looking forward to this. The work week has been a long one and you are so happy to have the weekend so you can rest. It’s a time of freedom when you get a chance to relax and rejuvenate your batteries for the upcoming week. But so many times Monday comes around and you start out the new week feeling tired and worn down. Why is that? It’s because you never truly rested.
Yes, physically you didn’t have to get up as early and head into work and then work a full day. But mentally your mind never took a break because you continued to focus on all the things that are worrying you. How am I ever going to meet that deadline I have coming up at work? How will I be able to juggle all the things the kids have going on? How will I make it to the next pay day when my bank account is already low? How will I get my wayward child to start listening? How will I be able to mend this broken relationship I’m in? How will I be able to start the fitness routine so I can improve my health?
While physically you may have some time off on the weekend, mentally you never give yourself a break. There are so many heavy burdens you are trying to carry by yourself and you see no way to take a break. This is when you have to realize those burdens don’t have to be carried alone. Jesus tells you in Matthew 11:28 that He will give you rest. You are probably asking yourself how can He do that when these burdens are weighing so heavily on me? The only way He can do that is if you have faith in Him.
It’s time to turn to Him and put those burdens at His feet. At that moment, you are able to truly rest because you know He has you and He is in control. Will the burdens all of a sudden disappear, probably not. But what will happen is you will understand that God has a tremendous plan for your life that does not include you carrying heavy burdens throughout your life. You will know that Jesus is right there with you. You will know that He is carrying those burdens for you. You will know that God has a plan to permanently remove those burdens. You will know what true rest feels like!
