If you watched the news for just a few minutes over the past few weeks, you have seen how contentious things have been. The campaign’s to become the next U.S. President have provided enough negative news to get many people concerned about their futures. Anxiety and fear have taken over so many and it is reflected in the way people are treating each other.

Take a quick glimpse at social media and you will see family turning against family and friends turning against friends. Many believe their futures are in the hands of a few politicians.  They feel these individuals control their happiness and the direction of their lives. No wonder there is such fear and anxiety, our faith has been placed in a man or woman instead of God.

To truly calm the fear and anxiety, you have to shift your focus to the One who is truly in control. Every time I feel myself getting drawn into the chaos, I reflect back on this solid truth, God is in control! He always has been and He always will be, regardless of who is elected in November.

It’s okay to be involved in the political process and vote for the candidate you choose. But when you let the political process take you to a place where you are full of fear, anxiety, anger and negativity, then there is a problem. At that point, I believe you have forgotten who is truly in control.

Reflect today on where you are in the current U.S. political scene and more importantly how it has you feeling and viewing others. If you are feeling fear/anxiety inside and anger/hatred towards others, it’s time for you to take a step back and re-evaluate. If you are truly a child of God, and are made in His image, is this truly the way you should be?
