How many times have you said a phrase similar to these, “The youth today just don’t get it” or “It seems like this young generation doesn’t want to work hard for anything”. These are some of the things we in the older generation perceive based on what is both seen and heard. When focusing on these perceptions it can be easy to write off our youth.

My question today is, what are you doing to help build them up? Growing up I had many people who helped me to become the person I am today. It started in the home with my parents but it didn’t stop there. I had other family members, teachers, and coaches who poured love and knowledge into me. And while I may not have fully absorbed what they were saying at that time, those nuggets stayed with me. I reflected on and used them later in life.

I think back and wonder what my life would have been like if I didn’t have these people pouring into my life. Would I be where I am now if they had written me off? Let’s not write off the younger generation because they think and act differently than we do.

Don’t sit and complain about the direction the younger generation is going in. Get up and take action, speak into their lives to help change the course. Even though it may appear they aren’t listening or they are determined to do it the hard way, please realize you are making an impact. The love you show and the words you pour into their life are being received.

Today I want you to look at how you can make a difference. Whether it’s in your home, at a school, as a coach, through your church or just in your conversation with someone in passing. Pour words of love and wisdom into them knowing that  those seeds you plant have the potential to grow into something amazing!
