Psalms 65:8 (NLT), “Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders. From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy.”
God is awesome! You’ve probably heard and said that yourself many, many times. If you just take a look around you at all of creation it’s easy to see why I would make a statement like that. God created the earth, the moon and the stars. God spun universes into existence and breathed life into man so we could live. When I look at myself and the way my human body is made, with all of it’s intricacies, I’m awestruck. For me to be alive and typing out this message is nothing short of amazing. But how often do you forget the amazing things God has done for you?
It’s easy to get so caught up in your daily life that those amazing things start to seem routine or mundane. You forget the miracle that is you being alive and you start to shift your focus to other things. You start to talk to God more about your problems than coming to Him with a spirit of gratitude for the amazing things He’s done in your life. Some of you may be thinking, God hasn’t really done anything amazing in my life. I believe a shift in your thinking will change that outlook.
What if you were to start each day in complete awe and amazement of what God has done in your life? How would that look? For me it would start with a whole lot of gratitude. Gratitude for God allowing a sinner like me to be saved through His son Jesus Christ. Gratitude for being alive. Gratitude for the loving and God-filled wife that I have. Gratitude for the awesome children God has blessed me with. Gratitude for the home I have and for the job I go to every work day. Gratitude for Him pulling me out of situations in my life that could have led me down a very different path. Gratitude for Him using me in this way to reach so many others. The list would go on and on.
All good things come from God! David speaks about this in the Book of Psalms. Psalms 103:2 (NLT) says, “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” Psalms 103:5 (NLT) says, “He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!” David acknowledges that the good in his life comes to him from his heavenly Father. This type of acknowledgement keeps David in awe of God’s wonders. His love for God and His appreciation for the life He has grows because of His gratitude for God’s gifts.
My point is, we all have things in our lives we can be grateful for. Events in our lives that make us sit there and say Wow because of how awesome they are. Your challenge is to not let the consequences of your life keep you from living in awe. Things may be tough for you now, but if you focus on showing gratitude for the things God has done for you, hope will be restored. Standing in awe at the blessings God has poured out on you already, will have you knowing in your heart He will do it again.
Start each day with a spirit of gratitude and live in awe of all the wonderful things God has done for you. There is more to come!
